Intermediate competence in Mandarin enables learners to move beyond memorised beginner exchanges and participate in longer, more purposeful communication. At this level, learners need broader vocabulary, stronger control of grammar and sentence organisation, increased character literacy, improved listening stamina and the confidence to manage everyday, academic, travel, digital and professional interactions.

This standalone Intermediate Level programme is the second stage of the Ziveka Campus Chinese Language and Communication pathway. It is designed for learners who have successfully completed the Foundation Level or can demonstrate equivalent competence through placement assessment. Across two semesters, learners develop from supported routine communication towards increasingly independent speaking, reading and writing in familiar and moderately demanding contexts.

The curriculum extends the language, themes and communication strategies introduced at Foundation Level. It integrates personal experiences, education, work, travel, health, services, digital communication, culture, presentations, customer interaction and collaborative problem-solving.
