Programme Overview

The Foundation Certificate in Spoken Hindi is a 3 month online course designed to develop practical, real-world spoken Hindi skills for young learners in Sri Lanka. The course is delivered fully online and prioritises oral communication over reading and writing the Devanagari script, enabling learners to communicate confidently in everyday and basic social or customer-facing situations by the end of the programme.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, learners will be able to:

Pronounce Hindi sounds, including aspirated and retroflex consonants, with reasonable accuracy and be understood by a sympathetic native or fluent listener.
Initiate and sustain basic conversations, including greetings, self-introduction, and exchanging personal information.
Carry out everyday transactions in Hindi, such as shopping, asking directions, using transport and ordering food.
Participate in simple workplace or customer-facing exchanges, including basic telephone etiquette and responding to customer queries.
Engage in short social conversations, discussing routines, plans, preferences and simple opinions.
Demonstrate Foundation-level spoken proficiency, as evidenced by a recorded final assessment task.
Make polite requests, apologise, and manage simple misunderstandings using appropriate diplomatic language.
