Programme Overview

Korean-language competence is increasingly valuable for Sri Lankan learners who are interested in communication, education, travel, culture, employment, tourism, technology and engagement with Korean organisations and communities. At Foundation Level, learners require a secure base in Hangeul literacy, pronunciation, high-frequency vocabulary, elementary grammar and culturally appropriate routine communication.

This standalone Foundation Level programme is designed for learners who begin with no prior knowledge of Korean. Across two semesters, learners progress from the principles of Hangeul and basic pronunciation to practical communication for greetings, introductions, contact details, dates, time, family, study, work, travel, shopping, food, health, hospitality and simple social interaction.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, learners will be able to:

Communicate effectively in basic to intermediate Korean in daily and workplace contexts.
Understand spoken Korean in routine conversations.
Write simple sentences and short, structured paragraphs.
Prepare for TOPIK Level 1–2 examinations.
Demonstrate cultural awareness of Korean society and etiquette.
